My 6-month-old husky screams in his crate so loud the neighbors have complained. I can't leave him loose because he destroys everything. I don't know what to do
He's screaming because it's worked before — at some point you let him out while he was vocalizing, and now the behavior is locked in. Rule one: never open the crate while he's making noise. Ever. That's non-negotiable. Start crate training from scratch. Feed every meal in the crate with the door open. Toss high-value treats in randomly throughout the day. Let him go in and out freely for 5 days. Then close the door for 10 seconds while he's eating. Open it before he finishes. Gradually increase duration: 30 seconds, 1 minute, 5 minutes, 15 minutes. If he screams, wait for 3 seconds of silence, then open the door. You're teaching that quiet = door opens. Most huskies settle within 3-4 weeks if you're consistent. If you cave even once and let him out mid-scream, you reset the entire timeline. Also: tire him out before crate time. Huskies need 60-90 minutes of hard exercise daily. A bored, wired husky will scream because he has nothing else to do. A tired one will sleep.
