Stopping in place doesn't teach the right lesson — it just tells her pulling doesn't work right now. You need to make pulling actively counterproductive. When the leash tightens, don't stop — reverse direction immediately and walk the opposite way without warning. She'll scramble to catch up. When she does and the leash goes slack, turn back toward your original direction and keep walking. Repeat every time there's tension. Most dachshunds need 150-200 reps before the pattern clicks. That's 8-12 short training walks, not two weeks of normal walks. The first week will feel absurd — you'll zigzag down the block and make no forward progress. That's correct. She's learning that pulling = lose ground, slack leash = make progress. By week three she'll start checking in before the leash tightens because pulling became worthless. If she's already overstimulated the moment you clip the leash, you're starting in too hard an environment. Practice in your driveway or hallway first.
