It's normal and it's not aggression — it's how herding breeds play and explore. Yelping works for some puppies, but it amps up aussies because high-pitched noises trigger their prey drive. Here's what works better. When she bites, immediately stand up, turn away, and cross your arms for 10 seconds. No eye contact, no words, no pushing her away. After 10 seconds, re-engage. If she bites again, repeat. The consequence is 'biting ends the fun.' You're teaching bite inhibition, not eliminating mouthing entirely — that's developmental and fades by 6-7 months if you're consistent. If she's biting during play, keep a tug toy in your pocket and redirect to that before she goes for your hand. Tired puppies bite less — aussies need 60-90 minutes of mental and physical exercise daily or they'll use your body as an outlet. If she's biting ankles while you walk, she's herding you. Stop moving when it happens. Movement rewards the behavior.
