🐾 3-Day Training Plan

Your Barking plan · Miniature Schnauzer

Three focused days of skill-building. Each session is 5–15 minutes. Start whenever you're ready.

Day 1 🤫 Quiet on Cue

Why this first: your dog barks to communicate. "Quiet" gives them a way to stand down without feeling dismissed.

1

Wait for a natural barking moment. After 3 barks, say "quiet" once, calmly.

2

The instant there is any pause — even one second — mark immediately and reward.

3

Gradually extend the quiet duration before marking: 1 second to 3 to 5.

What to expect by end of day 1

your dog will offer a brief quiet pause today. Those pauses lengthen with each session.

📅 3-4 practice opportunities throughout the day

Day 2 🛏️ Settle on Mat

Why this first: Every dog needs an "off" switch. your dog's mat becomes the place where the world gets small and calm again.

1

Place a mat in a quiet corner. Toss a treat onto it and say "mat" when your dog steps on.

2

Build duration: reward for 5 seconds, then 15, then 30. Stay nearby at first.

3

Practice while something mildly distracting happens — someone walking past, a noise.

What to expect by end of day 2

your dog will go to their mat on cue by tonight. That mat is now a skill.

📅 3 sessions × 10 minutes

Day 3 🔔 Doorbell Calm

Why this first: The doorbell has always predicted chaos for your dog. This session rewires it: bell = treat, not excitement.

1

Record your doorbell on your phone. Play it at low volume and treat your dog immediately after.

2

Repeat 10 times until your dog looks to you instead of the door when they hear it.

3

Then practice with the actual bell — ring, treat, calm. Keep the first sessions brief.

What to expect by end of day 3

your dog will look at you instead of the door by rep 8. That look is the behavior you want.

📅 2 sessions × 10 reps
