Active behavior plan
Behavior plan
door dashing, jumping at door, excitement overload at entry
Week 4 of 4
Scout will learn a solid door threshold behaviour — sitting or lying at the mat near the door before the door opens, with the ability to hold it through doorbell and handle sounds.
This week's focus
Scout waits, is released with "go say hi," and greets without jumping.

Voice session recap · May 15
Scout and Priya had a solid 18-minute walk coaching session today. We focused on the stretch between the house and the top of the block — Scout's current edge of attention before he starts scanning for distractions. Priya was doing great with her timing on the mark; the main adjustment we made was to mark the *moment* Scout's weight shifted toward her (not after he was already looking). That 0.3-second difference made a big difference in the last 5 reps. Three voluntary check-ins on the return leg with no prompt — a genuine breakthrough moment. Ended early when a cyclist appeared and Scout's arousal spiked: totally right call. We want every session to end with success, not a recovery.

Mark the weight shift toward you — not the look. Catch it early.

Doorbell mat practice: 3 reps today — bell, walk to mat, 5-second down, treat. Build duration before adding real guests.
Notes from your trainer
Coach note · May 14
Priya — great week 4 report! Seeing your door-manners progress in the logs. The mat-hold duration is climbing nicely. One thing: try the "doorbell = mat" drill WITHOUT a real visitor for now. Just you, the bell, and the mat. Lock in the reflexive response before adding the guest variable.
Coach note · May 9
Loose-leash is coming along — love seeing 3 voluntary check-ins logged on Tuesday! For the cyclist startle, that's totally normal at this stage. Don't rush back into that environment. Build the response in quieter streets first, then work up. Also: make sure you're doing at least one backyard session every third outdoor session to give Scout a success-reset.
Coach memory (12 entries)
what worked
Place command clicked in session 3 after switching from a dog bed to a raised cot. Elevation made the boundary clearer.
milestone
Scout graduated Place skill — held a 45-second stay from 8 feet with two distractions. Week 4 of training.
trigger
Door dashing when guests arrive. Excitement level 8/10. Currently in a 4-week door-manners behavior plan (Week 2).
trait
High food drive — motivated by treats even in high-distraction environments. Cheese and hot dog reliably cut through outdoor distractions.
milestone
First successful off-leash recall in a quiet park — owner cried. Scout came from ~20 metres with one whistle.
what worked
Loose-leash progress improved after owner started marking attention (eye contact) before reaching the end of the leash, not after.

Week 7 with Scout
This week: Loose leash walking (14 reps), Recall (8 reps). Here's what the coach flagged this week:
"Scout had 3 unprompted check-ins on Tuesday — a first on the neighbour walk. Loose-leash success rate is at 70% on familiar routes. The cyclist spook is still a work in progress; let's build more distance tolerance before adding that trigger back."
